Core work
These pages contain information about our work taking place across the Write Now partner institutions. It comprises several strands, but can be briefly summarised as working with students, lecturers and staff and educational developers on a range of initiatives that aim to develop students' confidence and competence as writers in their academic disciplines.
Central to our work is the premise of a fundamental connection between writing and thinking, and thus also between writing and learning. Our programmes build on this basic assumption to develop and evaluate new models and methods of enabling students to develop their understandings of the subjects they are studying as well as to learn how to participate and communicate effectively as members of their chosen academic and disciplinary communities.
Key areas of our work include the development and evaluation of:
- university Writing Centres as part of a sustainable institutional approach to improving students' writing
- peer tutoring in academic writing programmes, including the development of training approaches and materials
- initiatives to embed writing and the teaching of writing within disciplinary curricula, including the use of assessment to support students' learning and writing development
- staff development programmes focused on writing for publication, enhancing research capacity and designing assessment to foster student learning
- learning technologies and multimedia resources that facilitate students' writing development and advance institutional blended learning initiatives.
Please see the menu on the right for more information on each of these areas.
