D Royce Sadler is a Professor at the Griffith Institute for Higher Education, Griffith University, Brisbane. He has been teaching and researching in higher education for over 40 years at four different institutions. Since 1973, his research has been predominantly conceptual, and focused on the assessment of academic achievement, both formative and summative. Most of this work has been published in academic journals, and his writings are widely cited. The current focus is on assessment and grading in higher education, and assessment that leads to improved student capability. He has offered workshops, keynote addresses and consultancies for many universities in Australia and abroad on assessment policy and practice, and a variety of other issues. A Member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of two international assessment journals, he is also a regular manuscript reviewer for a number of others.
