Assessment Plus is a consortium-led project with the initial work taking place at London Metropolitan University, Liverpool Hope University and Aston University. Resources will be rolled out to at least three further institutions to trial and evaluate, including The Open University, Hull University and London Institute. The project is funded by HEFCE through phase 4 of the Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL4).

Essay feedback form

This resource is a version of the Essay Feedback Checklist (EFC), first developed by Lin Norton and colleagues at Liverpool Hope University College, which focuses on core assessment criteria for student essays.

The EFC is a simple tool to enable students to focus on the assessment criteria while they are actually writing an essay. It then functions as a method of targeting feedback in areas where students need it most -- i.e., where there is a discrepancy between their own rating and that of the tutor.

This resource can be used by tutors to mark and provide feedback on students' work as well as by pairs of students as a form of peer assessment.

This document is freely available for colleagues to use or adapt, provided acknowledgment is made to Assessment Plus by citing the project website.

Comments welcome: Part of the process of developing support for students involves trialling and evaluating, and the Assessment Plus team welcomes informal feedback and comments at any stage.
